Drug seizures this weekend to the value of €432,000

This weekend gardaí have seized drugs worth an estimated street value of €432,000 throughout the country.

Gardaí in Portlaoise discovered suspected cannabis herb with an estimated street value of €181,000, suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of €6,000 and a small amount of LSD. A man was arrested at the scene.

In Dublin, the Divisional Drugs Units in Coolock/Ballymun and Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) assisted by Revenue Customs Officers found cannabis worth €106,000 during the search of a house in Balgriffin. A man in his late 30’s was arrested and charged.

In Galway, gardaí on patrol discovered €5,000 worth of drugs during a stop and search in Salthill.

The Mayo Divisional Drugs Task Force carried out two searches in Balla. During two separate searches, gardaí seized cocaine worth an estimated street value of €73,000. During a stop and search, a man in his 20’s was arrested for possession of suspected cocaine, worth €1,500. As a result of a follow-up investigation, gardaí also seized cocaine worth approximately €71,640 in a house search in Balla. A man and woman in their 20’s were arrested at the scene.

In Enniscorthy, Wexford, gardaí also seized Amphetamine and suspected Cannabis with an estimated street value of €66,000. Two men were arrested, one in his late teens and the other man in his 40’s.

Last year Operation Tara was set initiated to reduce drug deaths throughout the nation. In 2020 the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) seized €36.7M worth of illegal drugs, €8m cash, 23 firearms and 2131 rounds of ammunition.
